Since the 1st January 2000, any companies or organisations involved in the transport of dangerous goods have been required to appoint an appropriately qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA). This requirement covers road, rail, and waterways. An advisor must hold a certificate gained by passing a written examination, the examinations being set and administered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
