Earned Recognition Scheme Audit

earned recognition

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) earned recognition scheme is a way to prove you meet driver and vehicle standards. As an authorised Earned Recognition Scheme audit provider, Lloyd Morgan Group can support HGV and PSV operator’s application by carrying out a full and comprehensive audit that is required to join the scheme. It is a voluntary scheme designed to work for operators of all sizes.

The audit by an approved audit provider, such as Lloyd Morgan Group proves that you meet the standards and that you are continuously monitoring your own compliance, using DVSA – validated IT systems and compliant with vehicle and road safety standards.

As a DVSA earned recognition operator you’ll:

  • be an exemplary operator, and be able to prove this when you bid for contracts
  • be less likely to have your vehicles stopped at the roadside for inspections
  • be less likely to have DVSA enforcement staff visit your premises
  • be able to use the DVSA earned recognition logo on your website and other publicity materials (but not on your vehicles)
  • be recognised as a DVSA-accredited operator on GOV.UK
  • have direct access to a dedicated earned recognition team in DVSA

Earned Recognition Scheme Audit

Who is it aimed at?

The audit is designed for operators seeking to demonstrate their compliance with the required Earned Recognition audit standards. The audit looks at the processes involved in the transport management systems and how effectively they are managed, demonstrating that any compliance issues are investigated and appropriately actioned.

Before you apply you need to make sure that you meet the following criteria:

  • you’ve had a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) or public service vehicle (PSV) operator licence for at least 2 years
  • the Traffic Commissioner hasn’t taken any regulatory action (other than a formal warning) on any of your operator licences in the last 2 years
  • you have digital management systems for vehicle maintenance and drivers’ hours, which can track the KPIs and automatically report if they’re missed
  • you meet the earned recognition audit standards

The Audit is undertaken by our qualified auditors who fully meet DVSA’s auditor criteria. Driver and vehicle files must also be available for sampling during the audit because you will need to demonstrate that you have electronic systems in place to record vehicle maintenance as well as drivers’ hours activities.

Following the audit, a comprehensive report will be presented to you to clearly identify where standards have been met and where any opportunities for improvement have been highlighted.

If any issues have been highlighted, we can support you in creating an action plan to address them and arrange a re-audit of these areas to demonstrate full compliance with all Earned Recognition audit standards.

By having electronic systems in place to record vehicle maintenance as well as drivers’ hours activities, operators will be able to make sure they’re meeting the required standards for the scheme

The audit covers 9 key sections:

Section 1 – Operator’s Licence.

Section 2 – Transport Manager and Responsible Person

Section 3 – Vehicle Standards

Section 4 – Drivers’ Hours

Section 5 – Operational Management

Section 6 – Driver Management

Section 7 – Training and Driver Behavior

Section 8 – Driver Related Policies

Section 9 – ADR (HGV Only)

Section 9 – Service Work (PSV Only)

For more detailed information on what the audit will cover under each of the 9 sections, please call us on 01543 897505 or Visit our downloads and guides page

The audits are carried out at a location suitable to demonstrate your systems, usually your own premises.

Please contact us to find out about the duration of your audit as it will be defined by criteria such as number of O Licences you hold, number of operating centres and number of vehicles.
