Important changes coming to how operators receive prohibition notifications from 18 June 2025
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced significant updates to their roadside prohibition notification system that will affect all transport operators across the UK.
What’s Changing?
From 18 June 2025, operators with an email address registered on their Operator Licence will receive prohibition notifications electronically via email rather than through traditional postal services. This modernisation of the DVSA’s enforcement procedures represents a major shift towards digital communication in the transport compliance sector.
The new email notifications will contain all the same comprehensive information that operators currently receive in posted letters, ensuring no loss of critical details regarding prohibition notices. This digital transformation is designed to make the notification process faster, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable.
Impact on Day-to-Day Operations
Despite this digital shift, certain aspects of the prohibition process will remain unchanged. Operators will still receive physical prohibition documents at the roadside during enforcement encounters, and clearance notices will continue to be sent by post. This hybrid approach ensures that drivers and operators maintain immediate access to essential documentation while benefiting from faster notification processes.
What Operators Need to Know
For operators with registered email addresses: You’ll automatically receive prohibition notifications via email from 18 June 2025. Ensure your email address is current and regularly monitored to avoid missing critical compliance communications.
For operators without registered email addresses: The current postal system will continue unchanged. You’ll still receive prohibition notifications by letter to your registered business address.
Ensuring Compliance
At Lloyd Morgan Group, we recommend that all operators review their Operator Licence details to ensure contact information is up to date. Having current email addresses registered not only enables you to benefit from faster notification processes but also demonstrates proactive compliance management.
This update is part of DVSA’s ongoing commitment to improving their services, with further enhancements planned for the coming months. Operators should expect additional updates as the agency continues to modernise their enforcement and communication systems.
