Update on COVID-19

The Government has announced that to limit the spread of coronavirus there will be new measures put in place on the 24th of September.

How will this affect services?

The new restrictions do not currently affect the DVSA’s heavy vehicle testing service which restarted on 4 July.

When should I get my vehicle tested?

The DVSA are continuing to manage testing demand using exemptions. You should only book your vehicle in for its test when the MOT is due.
This will make sure that tests aren’t booked when they’re not needed and vehicles and trailers which legally need a test can get one.
You should continue to manage the regular maintenance and inspection schedule for your vehicles and trailers during the exemption period. This is a legal requirement under your operator’s licence.
Operator licensing will continue as normal.

Vocational tests

DVSA vocational theory and practical test services will not be affected by the additional restrictions. Tests will continue to go ahead as planned and the booking service will remain open.

Enforcement activity

The DVSA have pledged to continue their enforcement work to protect you from unsafe drivers and vehicles on our roads. They will also continue to work remotely to support drivers and operators to follow guidance and legislation and, where appropriate, improve their driver and vehicle safety standards.

What do we do next?

The DSVA will keep the situation under review and let us know if the situation changes.
