A new update to the Lloyd Morgan Group driver walkaround app is due for release on Tuesday 14th April, bringing with it a built-in walkaround timer and a series of practical improvements that make the inspection process clearer and more accountable for drivers and operators alike.
The update is currently available on Android, with the iOS version to follow.
The headline addition is a dedicated timer that runs throughout the walkaround check, giving drivers a real-time view of how long the inspection is taking. As you can see in the screenshots below, the timer appears prominently on screen during the check, sitting alongside the inspection checklist as drivers work through each item.

This matters for compliance. DVSA guidance expects walkaround checks to be thorough, and a visible timer creates a built-in record of the time invested. For transport managers, it offers a useful signal when reviewing completed checks: a walkaround completed in 47 seconds raises very different questions to one that took four minutes.
Alongside the timer, the update brings two naming changes that may seem small but carry real operational weight. The button that begins the check has been renamed “Start”, making the point at which the timer kicks in explicit. At the end of the checklist, the button now reads “Finish” rather than a generic confirmation label, clearly marking when the check is complete. Both changes reduce the risk of drivers accidentally submitting incomplete checks or misunderstanding where they are in the process.
The update also improves the back navigation function. Drivers can now move back through the checklist to review or correct earlier answers, and the timer will continue running throughout. If the app is closed mid-check, the timer pauses automatically and resumes when the driver returns to the same session, so there is no risk of the clock stopping just because a call came in or the screen locked.
This release builds on a series of improvements already live in the current version of the app, including landscape mode for tablets, larger input fields for notes, reasons and signatures, and the ability to add photos to rectifications. Questions now display in a consistent sequence, and drivers can navigate back from the signature, notes, and reason pages without losing their progress.
A number of stability fixes have also been applied across recent releases, improving overall reliability in day-to-day use.
The daily walkaround check is one of the most scrutinised elements of any operator’s compliance record. Traffic Commissioners and DVSA enforcement officers look for evidence that checks are being carried out properly, consistently and in a timely manner, not just ticked off on paper. Digital walkaround tools address the paper-based weaknesses that have historically caused problems for operators at public inquiry, providing time-stamped records, structured checklists and an auditable trail.
Our driver walkaround check software is built around these requirements, giving drivers a straightforward mobile interface and giving operators the oversight they need to demonstrate compliance with confidence.
If your fleet is still relying on paper-based walkaround checks, or if you are using a digital tool that does not provide adequate reporting, now is a good time to review your approach. With enforcement activity from DVSA continuing at pace and Traffic Commissioners increasingly focused on the quality of operator compliance systems, the tools you put in front of your drivers reflect directly on your licence.
